In partnership with Temasek’s Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP) and the Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA), this whitepaper explores how we can transform Southeast Asia (SEA)’s agricultural sector towards a more sustainable future.
SEA is poised to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2030. By 2050, food consumption in this region is expected to increase by 40% by 2050, intensifying demand for agricultural products. However, the agriculture sector here faces several systemic barriers: fragmentation of smallholder farms, outdated farming practices, and environmental degradation, all of which destabilises the agri-food system and threatens food security.
Drawing from 26 interviews with solution providers, investors, and corporates, the report illustrates how we can leverage tools like Carbon Maps to pinpoint high-impact areas, and offers a variety of case studies to how forward-thinking practitioners are effecting meaningful transformation across the region today.
